It doesn’t matter what kind of a problem you are having, it is always a better idea if you can find a natural cure than trying to find one that is produced by a pharmaceutical pill. The reason why this is the case is because medical cures tend to attack the symptoms of the problem rather than attacking the problem itself. A good example of this is if you are suffering from insomnia. If you take a sleeping pill that is given to you by the doctor, all that it is really going to do is to put you into an unconscious state. It will not get to the root of the problem that is causing the insomnia, a problem that often has to do with the hormones in the body.
Our bodies are amazingly balanced and whenever we are firstborn, we rarely experience problems with insomnia because the balance in our body allows us to sleep good when we need it. As we get older, however, the environment around us creates problems that we are dealing with tend to throw our bodies out of balance along with making it difficult for us to sleep. Some of the things that tend to get out of balance during these years are the hormones within our body. Here are two hormones that tend to cause us to lose some sleep.
The first of these is serotonin. Although this hormone does not necessarily help you to sleep it does have a lot to do with the mood that you are feeling. Serotonin is a hormone that is usually released whenever we exercise or do something good for our body. It helps us to feel good on the inside and does a lot to relieve the stress within us. If our insomnia is stress related, the hormone serotonin can go a long way in helping us to get a good nights sleep.
The other hormone that we may be lacking is melatonin. This is a hormone that is put out by our body that does many different things but for one, it helps to put us to sleep. Many people take natural forms of melatonin in order to overcome problems such as jet-lag and insomnia. If you find that you are suffering from occasional sleeplessness, a little bit of melatonin in the form of a pill may go a long way in helping you to get the sleep that you need.
When the sound inside your room during the night can cause your partner or the whole neighborhood to stay awake all night, then you need to take the right action. You need to find ways to stop your snoring problem. However, before you can stop snoring, there is one thing you need to know: the cause of snoring. Here are the ways to stop snoring with respect to its causes.
How to stop snoring caused by nasal congestion and allergies?
Snoring occurs when there is an enlargement of adenoids and/or tonsils. And, this is usually the result of nasal congestion and allergies.
Snoring caused by nasal congestion can be stopped by taking decongestants. You may want to consult your doctor to know the particular decongestant that is right for your condition. Saltwater nose drops are also effective to remove nasal congestion. There are commercial saltwater solutions that can be bought at drugstores but you can also make one for you. Mix ΒΌ teaspoon of salt to 8 ounces of sterilized water to flush out the congestion from your nose.
Meanwhile, snoring caused by allergies can be stopped with antibiotics. Normally, when the nasal congestion or allergies stop, snoring stops too.
How to stop snoring caused by obesity, poor healthy lifestyle, and irregular sleep?
Obesity can cause snoring by blocking your air passage with fat concentration. Also, excess fat can develop at your stomach that causes your diaphragm to work irregularly. So, the best way to stop snoring that is caused by obesity is losing weight through regular exercise and proper diet.
Poor healthy lifestyle such as excessive drinking and smoking can trigger snoring. Alcohol causes a partial collapse on your airways (from lungs all the way up to your nose) which can immediately start you snoring. Cigarette smoking on the other hand causes blockage on the small vessels of the lungs and swelling on the tissue in the throat and mucus membrane in the nose. Both can cause sleep apnea. Avoid excessive intake of alcohol and excessive cigarette smoking before sleeping.
Irregular sleeping can result to instability in breathing during asleep. So, it is important that you sleep for at least 7 to 8 hours during the night.
How to stop snoring caused by sleep apnea?
Sleep apnea is a condition characterized by loud snoring with periods of breathing interruptions. These interruptions are caused by irregular breathing patterns. This results in snoring poor sleep and a host of other ailments.
To stop sleep apnea and snoring altogether, you should quit smoking (if you smoke), lose weight (if you are either obese or overweight), stop using sleeping pills and medications with antihistamines, and stop sleeping on your back instead, sleep on your side.
Other ways to stop snoring are the use of commercially available anti snoring products such as homeopathic throat sprays and tablets, throat sprays, sleeping pillows, nasal strips and dilators.
These products may or may not stop your snoring. This is obviously because there are certain reasons as to why you snore that may not be stopped from the outside. Reasons such as obesity and sleep apnea can be cured differently (as mentioned above).
If you snore and would like to try any of these products, evaluate first the reason why you snore. Only go for these products if you think they can help you.
Sleep apnea is the condition where there are lapses in breathing during sleep. These are defined by medical terminology when an individual literally stops breathing. There are two different types of apneas Central and Obstructive. This is a common problem among the morbidly obese which requires them to wear an oxygen mask so they can breathe since that’s due in part of their weight bearing down on their chest crushing their rib cage and lungs.
According to medical reports the population at risk are obese middle-aged males since physiology doesn’t make women potential sufferers of sleep apnea. The problem is that people who do fall asleep due to sleep apnea will go through brief periods where people think they’re not going to wake up. Keep in mind that this is very serious because if it’s not properly diagnosed it can be life threatening. People with excessive weight usually morbidly obese constantly have to deal with frequent episodes of paused breathing. Snoring is a common problem with the morbidly obese and constant gasping for air while sleeping is another problem. Obstructive sleep apnea can be dangerous to the heart because it’s prolonging and deprivation of oxygen to keep the circulation flowing efficiently.
Other symptoms that are deemed non-specific are headaches, irritability, moodiness, difficulty concentrating, Nocturia (getting up in the middle of the night to urinate), increased urination, decreased sexual drive, increased heart rate, anxiety, depression, esophageal reflux (acid reflux disease), and profuse heavy sweating at night.
Sleep apnea has also been linked to congestive and congenital heart failure usually found in people who are diagnosed as morbidly obese because of the excessive weight on them. This is from severe and prolonged cases meaning the individual(s) were not being treated and had let the condition get to the point that it’s no longer treatable.
Individuals born with Down’s Syndrome are likely to develop obstructive sleep apnea since 50% of the population that has this genetic condition are likely to be diagnosed because of having an enlarged head, adenoids, tonsils, tongue, and narrowing of the nasopharnyx. Pharyngeal flap surgery has also been noted to cause sleep apnea in patients because of the obstruction in the breathing pattern after surgery which if not monitored can be life threatening. There are different treatments for people with sleep apnea and doctors and ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) specialists take the following into consideration for designing a treatment plan for those who are diagnosed with this condition.
The factors that are considered are an individual’s medical history, severity of the disorder, and the specific cause for the obstruction. Some treatments also incorporate a lifestyle change, avoiding alcohol and medications that can relax the nervous system.
Other lifestyle changes is losing weight and quitting smoking, and incorporate things like elevating themselves while sleeping so that they can breathe using slanted pillows. The weight issue is the biggest lifestyle concern because that causes some people to be confined to beds where they can’t move and be active contributing further into a person’s weight gain.
Usually if someone who’s morbidly obese and loses about 50 pounds within a couple months their condition improves, but it’s usually up to a steady support system to get someone on a set routine and healthy eating plan that helps to get their weight down so they can qualify for other treatments to help them maintain weight loss which is either through gastric bypass which has to be strongly enforced since this surgery is irreversible and you have to eat differently and undergo a major lifestyle change. The other option is lap band, which is reversible, but again to maintain the weight loss to improve sleep and breathing patterns comes with monitoring what one eats and exercise to help improve breathing patterns.
I have had several of my own issues with trying to sleep better which seem to be changing constantly . Menopause, Stress, and Sleep Apnea have plagued me for years. For the past month, I have had a new reason to disturb my ability to sleep better. A chronic cough has been waking me up two or three times a night for the past month.
Today I finally went to seek some professional advice for this cough that I have had for the past few months. I have tried about everything that I know to get rid of this cough and I had absolutely no luck. It was sometimes so bad that I felt really guilty being around people. I knew that I wasn’t sick but you couldn’t tell from the sounds coming out of me.
Several years ago I had a similar cough but was smoking cigarettes at the time and thought that it was the price I had to pay for smoking. I was given a great cure. One of my co-workers gave me some Mullein Leaf and I made a cup of this tea for myself daily. It worked years ago and also for about two weeks recently. Then the cough started back again.
My family physician changed some of my medications back in August and shortly after that, I started with a cough. The specialist that I saw today said that this particular medicine is notorious for causing people to cough. He said that I would be cured after stopping this medication for about 2 weeks. I am looking forward to a Thanksgiving Dinner without coughing.
I know that I have some breathing issues because I am overweight. I have always had what is called an epicardial fat pad which has grown with me. It takes up space that would be better filled with lungs. Restrictive lung disease is now my diagnosed condition which would greatly improve with a drop in weight.
Time to start walking.
Sweet Dreams!
