Be very wary of the herbal claims and dont buy util you see a health professional You need other screenigns at your age also like breast exam etc and thiis may be your chance to get a free/ low cost check up for all of that!!!check with your local hospital or health dept or planned parenthood clinic You may be able to get low cost birth control pills prescribed for birth control(whether or not you can bear children now) Those same pills can be useful to prevent hot flashes Make an appt They may also have “well woman care” there If you are up to 50+a couple years or so there is still that rare but odd chance of becoming pregnant though it would usually endin miscarriage but you can say Idont wanna take any chances-I need birth control in pill form or patch form they will need to screen you for all types of possible disqualifiers like smoking.
the natural herbs may be ok for those with very mild symptmoms but studie show little to none in more serious cases of hot flashes They are quite expensive to boot But do go ahead and take some vitamins-calcium+Vitamin D and magnesium-cheapest brand-thats good(take half as much magnesium as you do calcium in milligrams) DO not buy any special “natural” brand JUST buy the cheapest If you are tempted to buy anything online PLEASE please ask the pharmacist at your local drug store/grocery first they will tell you which vitamins are “better” or what makes no difference.. Do not waste money you may need for other essential health care
Remember the herbal menopause business is making loads of money so they ar e no more to be trusted without research than the big drug companies. You will have to keep buying and buying to experiement and they are not all without side effects either ONe woman I know tried one and got trerrible migraines until she stopped the herbal pills So nothing is without risk but talk to a professional like doctor or NP at the clinic of planned parenthood or simliar place. There are prescription drug assistence plans that can pay for it if you qulaify=without needing insurance. Take care of yourself w/o insurance you should take care not to smoke or be overweight or eat junk food or be sedentary or abuse drugs or alcohol. Best of luck

Black Cohosh is a great herb and reasonably priced for menopause..
Valerian Root is a big help in relaxation to help you sleep, catnip is another .. yes catnip.. it comes in caps for us humans..
Also use a cool damp cloth.. I find if i lay it on the back of my neck it works best for hot flashes.. and another tip .. if you hold the wet cloth in your fingertips and swing it around for a minute.. the cloth tempurature gets like 10-15* cooler..
That I learned from my sisters nurse when she was in icu..

Welcome to the menopause club.. isn’t it just lovely? lol

P.S. there are also herbal mixes you can buy online or at helalthfood stores as well.. if symtoms worsen or you just can’t handle it anymore..

try taking a calcium/magnesium supplement and a product called “Extra strength Estroven”. Dong quai is an herb used to alleviate menopause symptoms. I sell vitamins and a lot of women have told me that these work for them. and my wife got great benefit from the Estroven. (and you don’t have menopause due to night sweats. you have night sweats due to menopause.) go to your local vitamin or herb shop and ask there what they recommend. they aren’t doctors, but they can help you find some relief.

    4. montreaux1991 says:

You should see a doctor, but add some soy to your diet.
Black cohosh can also help, and if you can find it, wild yam cream/ointment. I know very little about the Estroven supplements to reccomend them.

I hear ya’, sister! I know what you mean. Not wanting to use hormones I suffered for 10 years! but then started exploring natural, herbal remedies. I came across an herbalist who crafted a menopause tea for me that had oat straw, mint, red clover, sage and a few other things in it (another bad thing about menopause is the loss of memory). She also gave me Black Cohosh tincture that she mixed herself. That combination worked really well.

I also used homeopathic Belladonna just as I felt a hot flash coming on.

Something else that might be successful on your symptoms is Triatone. The ingredients include Isoflavones, Black Cohosh, Dong Quai, Chasleberry, and Licorice Root. This not only alleviates many symptoms, but it may also leave you with an overall sense of well-being. You might also check out your local natural food or herb store and to find out what natural supplements they carry. In addition to their side-effect free effectiveness, they tend to cost far less than the available prescription options.

Of course, mainstream medicine is going to scoff at natural cures, but they have to, I guess, so they can keep the cash cows coming in.

My husband, the dear man, bought me a Chillow. It is a pillow made of gel that you fill with water. No matter how hot your flashes might get, it works great.

      Good luck.

I was in the same position you are just over a year ago. The flashes and sweats are bad enough but the lack of sleep is a killer, believe me I know, it just ruins all other parts of your life. I looked around and tried a few different things, some were ok, some were rotten. Eventually I came accross some thing called “womens choice”, its just one tablet a day and has really cut down on my symptoms, they haven’t gone altogether but are down by I’d guess 90%. I also use the xrta cal tablets to keep my bones and teeth strong etc. The best thing I have discovered is the Sleep now tablets, they have probably saved me from losing my job. You get a good nights sleep but with no drowsiness or headaches in the morning. These things are great. Try http://www.myhealthabcmall.com, most of the stuff they have is to do with weight loss but the womens products are the best I have ever used, they are great. You can get free advice on the toll free number or via the email link. It is a guy who is the nutritionist there but he knows his stuff and is really nice, listens to what you have and what you want and then comes back to you with some ideas. The whole support and advice they give you is excellent. I hope hti helps you.

Go to your local health food store and check out their menopause section. There are a number of products on the market that actually work to reduce or eliminate these symptoms, and they are not all expensive. You can purchase the Hylands Menopause homeopathic remedy for as little as $8, and this works very well for some, but not all people.
Don’t believe the propaganda that black cohosh and other herbs don’t work, because if they are from a high quality producer, they can and do work, but again, not for all people. Be willing to experiment with a few products, start with the cheapest and work your way up. If something is truly effective for you, you should notice it within the first 2-3 weeks. Good Luck!

You can talk to your pharmacist and he can help you with some of the over the counter options. My sister takes an over the counter product because she too does not have insurance, and she is feeling a lot better. It has seemed to help her a lot.

You need to start thinking about osteoporosis too. To stop that from ever happening take 2 tbls. heinz apple cider vinegar in a glass of water before a meal. Vinegar has 93 vitamins and mineral to stop hair loss as we age. It also gives you so much energy that you will feel half your age. Boosts immunity, balances those wild mood swings too. Vinegar has lowered my high blood presssure for the first time in 30 years. I was about to pop until I read about vinegar, cayenne pepper, honey and coconut oil for my hair and skin. Vinegar will make you sleep if you take a glass before bed. You are awake because your body needs food. Vinegar is the bomb!
I drink plain old fashioned ice water to keep my body cool and comfortable. Baby powder or talc will keep you comfortable too. Those pills people rave about have more problems connected to them than the original malady. Only natural supplements should do for anyone.

Menopause is a stage in life when a woman stops having her monthly period. It is a normal part of aging, marking the end of a woman’s reproductive years.Get enough calcium. A woman going through menopause needs 1000 mg to 1500 mg of calcium a day. Avoid excessive amounts of salt to reduce bloating associated with hormonal changes. Try the Natural Cures, you dont need to pocket much extra money on it.

The menopause or a woman’s change of life is a perfectly normal event which occurs in the mid or late forties. It signifies the end of the female reproductive period of life which commenced at adolescence in the early teens. There are several misconceptions about menopause. Many women at this time feel that they are growing old and that they are well past their full physical vigor. Other women feel that the menopause brings a cessation of sexual pleasure. These apprehensions are far from true. Menopause may be considered an end to women’s fertility but certainly not to her virility. It does not decrease a woman’s physical capacity or sexual vigor or enjoyment.

Symptoms: During the menopause, the entire chain of endocrine glands is disturbed, particularly the gonads, thyroid and pituitary. In a really healthy woman, the menopausal change takes place without any unpleasant symptoms. The only sign that the “change” taking place is the cessation of menstrual flow. There are, however, many women who do not enjoy good health due to dietetic errors and a faulty style of living. In these cases, the menopausal change often leads to all kinds of distressing physical, emotional, and nervous symptoms and manifestations. Hot flashes, night sweats, nervous tension, menstrual disturbances, insomnia, diminished interest in sex, irritability, and depression are the typical symptoms of menopause. Other symptoms are chilly feelings, fatigue, palpitation, dizziness, headaches and numbness. Not every women will get these severe reactions. The severity or otherwise of the symptoms depend on a variety of factors such as general health, previous surgery and radiation. Menopause and its problems are usually over when menstruation stops.

Causes: The annoying symptoms associated with menopause arise from the fact that the ovaries are no longer producing their normal amount of estrogen, the dominant female hormone. Anything which interferes with the normal functioning of the ovaries may also bring about these symptoms. The same strange feelings may occur if the ovaries are removed by surgery because of disease. This can also result from heavy X-ray therapy or the use of radiation. A lack of normal hormone balance may also result in a severe backache. This is caused by thinning of the bones arising from the low level of estrogen in the bloodstream. Unless properly treated, this may eventually lead to a collapse of one or more of the vertebrae.

Treatment: Although menopause cannot be avoided, it can be postponed for as long as 10 to 15 years and it can be made a smooth affair when it comes, with a proper nutritional programme, special supplements and the right mental attitude. When a woman is affected by the menopausal change to any marked extent, it is a sure sign that her body is in a toxic condition and in need of a thorough cleansing. For this purpose, she should undergo a course of natural health building treatment. Diet is of utmost importance in such a scheme of treatment. In fact the problems at menopause are often much more severe than that at puberty largely because the diet has been deficient for many years prior to its onset, in many nutrients such as protein, calcium, magnesium, vitamins D, E, and pantothenic acid. The diet should be made up from three basic food groups, namely (i) seeds, nuts, and grains (ii) vegetables and (iii) fruits. The emphasis should be on vitamin E-rich raw and sprouted seeds and nuts, unpasteurised high quality milk and homemade cottage cheese and an abundance of raw, organically grown fruits and vegetables. Plenty of freshly made juices of fruits and vegetables in season should also be included in this diet.

All processed, refined and denatured foods, such as white sugar, white flour and all articles made with them, should be completely eliminated. Take special supplements such as vitamins C, B6 and pantothenic acid, which have a specific property of stimulating the body’s own production of estrogen or enhancing the effect of the existing estrogen. During menopause, the lack of ovarian hormones can result in a severe calcium deficiency. For this reason, a larger than usual intake of calcium may help greatly. Vitamins D and F are also essential for assimilation of calcium. Any woman having difficulty at this time should supplement her daily diet with 1,000 units of natural vitamin D, 5000 milligrams of magnesium and two grams of calcium daily, which can be supplied by one quart of milk. During the menopause, the need for vitamin E soars 10 to 50 times over that previously required. Hot flashes, night sweats, and other symptoms of menopause often disappear when 50 to 100 units of vitamin E are taken daily. The symptoms recur quickly if the vitamin is discontinued.

Of late, it has become popular to take estrogen to prevent or postpone menopausal symptoms. Although hormone therapy is apparently successful and will, in many cases, help the patient to feel and act younger, it cannot be recommended in all cases because of its carcinogenic effect. If, however, estrogen therapy is undertaken, it should never be administered at the same time as vitamin E therapy. Ingestion of estrogen and vitamin E should be separated by several hours. Beet juice has been found very useful in menopausal disorders. It should be taken in small quantities of 60 to 90 ml at a time thrice a day. It has proved much more permanently helpful than the degenerative effects of drugs or synthetic hormones. Carrot seeds have also been found valuable in menopausal tension. A teaspoonful of the seeds should be boiled in a glassful of cow’s milk for about 10 minutes and taken daily as a medicine in this condition.

Plenty of outdoor exercise, such as walking, jogging, swimming, horse riding, or cycling, is imperative to postpone menopause. Other helpful measures in this direction are avoiding mental and emotional stress and worries, especially worry about growing old, sufficient sleep, and relaxation and following all general rules of maintaining a high level of health. The healthier a woman is, the fewer menopausal symptoms she will experience.

The menopause can be made a pleasant affair by building bodily health and a sane mental outlook. From puberty to menopause, a woman has been somewhat of a slave to her female glands. At specified intervals she was inconvenienced by her menstrual periods. She bore children, enduring the pain and discomfort of pregnancy. Menopause relieves her of this bondage to her femininity. She can now experience some of the happiest days of a woman’s life. A whole new life is given to her, if she is wise enough to prepare for it and accept it as such.

      Hope this helps, Good Luck.
